Why I started Tattoo Smarter

You are probs here because you found my Tattoo Smarter page on Insta! Hai, Hello Hi!

Tbh I made the TS page because I was seeing so many tattooers having the same issues over and over again. Issues with clients, issues with boundaries, everyone overworking, artists with issues in their studios, issues with organisation and in general I feel like tattooing needs to grow up 😂, like I don't wan't to be a party pooper but we need an overhaul STAT.

When I started the insta I had no idea I would have the opportunity to connect with so many wonderful people from all over and that so many of you felt the same as I did! And that so many of you were ready to make some well overdue changes.

I realised most tattooers smash the creative side of tattooing but get left behind with the business side, and far too many of you feel lost and overwhelmed with no idea where to start.

I’ve been there!

And it SUCKS. It’s doing you harm.

I want better for you and I want better for tattooing.

Burnout & losing the love for tattooing is not the one but it's so common place when it doesn't have to be that way. There are so many toxic mindsets and messages ingrained in tattooing that glorify the struggle. We are actively participating in some kind of group martyr shit and for what reason?!

SO I DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. No point complaining if I’m not being pro-active huh? 🤣

So I created these resources & courses to help you overcome whatever challenges you may have in your business.

Because you deserve a job that you enjoy, that’s free from guilt -one that doesn’t make you so stressed you want to eat your own face.

You also deserve a job gives you financial security

There is absolutely no need to be part of the struggle.

I’m gonna share some personal shit.

I sat and cried

I remember one time…probs in around 2009/10 in my first year of having my studio...

Stress had been piling up & a redic client was super late, when he finally arrived - he looked me dead in the eye & said "it doesn’t matter I’m late, I’m paying for your time”

I. Lost. My. Shiiiiitttt 💁🏻‍♀️💅🏻

I cringe and I'm not proud of it but I told everyone in the vicinity to fuck off including my client (he earned a lifetime ban btw). Oh man, was it embarrassing & the opposite of professional.

Anyway, I didn’t know what to do so I did the sensible thing:

I sat in a puddle of tears on the floor of the studio FRANTICALLY organising all the artists trolleys 🤣🤣

(fyi it did actually calm me down, try it!)

Looking back I wish I could have scooped up baby Kezz & told her “you got this” because even tho I deffos DID have it. It didn’t feel like it at the time.

I want you to know, you’ve got this too.

13 years later I’m not going to tell you it was plain sailing from here, (there was also a 3am toilet wallpaper incident, but that's for another time😂)

I’ve made a tonne of mistakes - I can’t say it was easy because that would be a lie. But you might be able to skip some of these mistakes with some help.

There is good news

The good news in this story is that it did get better.

LIKE. LOADS. BETTER

Out of necessity (being an Autistic person comes with a lot of extra challenges) I learned boundaries, efficient processes, I learned to trust & be kind to myself & to stop listening to people WHO DIDN'T PAY MY BILLS.

Things can get better for you too.

You deserve to have a job that you love, in a safe environment that affords you financial freedom & security.
